Abstract: With the growing range of genetically modified crops being based in food products, a public debate has evolved regarding their implications for the environment, human health, and the overall future directions for agriculture. Although the debate largely takes place in Europe and the USA, it is likely to take place in developing countries as well. This chapter introduces some of the most controversial issues and concludes with important considerations and recommendations for agricultural and regulatory policy.
