Objectives: Specifically, this training aims to: 1) provide better understanding of the concept, principles and applications of biotechnology; 2) review and discuss current issues related to biotechnology, focusing on the science and technical aspects of environmental safety, food safety, socioeconomic and public acceptance, and regulatory processes; and 3) provide the techniques for communicating biotechnology issues to different stakeholders. The training catered to 48 participants that consisted of Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) members and community representatives, farmer leaders, provincial and municipal agricultural officers and technicians, media and research managers. They are the ones who have the responsibility or opportunity to communicate on biotechnology to other organizations. The trainees came mostly from Davao City (6), South Cotabato (25). Representatives from PCARRD (1), Pioneer Hi-Bred (14), Monsanto (2) also joined the training.
