Farmers try to prevent the virus from spreading by spraying pesticides to kill insects that transfer the virus from one plant to another. This, however, does not cure the infected tree as there is no known cure to the BBTV. The virus is transferred by aphids, an insect and most commonly carrier or agent of the virus. Without the necessary intervention to prevent the spread of the virus, it can easily affect 90 percent of a banana plantation in less than a year. The virus can affect a banana at any stage and once it does, the banana stops growing and would never bear fruit. Worse, it will die after a few months.
