The Philippine archipelago has rich coral reef, seagrass, and mangrove ecosystems. These ecosystems do not only serve as home to invertebrates and fishes but also as source of livelihood and protection from strong wave action.
The coral reef system is one of the most productive and biodiverse ecosystems that provide shelter to communities of fish and invertebrates. Its destruction will affect food availability for both fish and human communities.
