Filipino scientists are now working hand-in-hand with the government to make use of biotechnology for industries and agriculture and enhance the quality of life of Filipinos. The National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (Biotech) of the University of the Philippines - Los Baños is at the forefront of this campaign. Under its Environmental Biotechnology Program, Biotech is now fast-tracking the research and development of new technologies for industrial use. Primarily created for the country's biofuel program which started in 1980s, new programs have been introduced until it was finally designed to promote environmental protection and conservation.
