The agricultural sector in the Philippines is the major stakeholder in food production, and is dominated by smallholder farmers. It is thus important to determine if this sector can contribute enough in addressing the challenges to food security. This study assessed the ecological services and socio-economic contributions of agroforestry in selected upland farming communities, in particular: (1) can the farmer-producers consume their own produce? (2) is food available and accessible among the farmer-producers? (3) can the production systems produce food that is enough for the farmer-producer’s household and the community? and (4) can these agricultural production systems withstand and cope with climate change, and market and policy variations?
