Summary : Biotechnology is as old as wine making and brewing beer with yeast as long as 6000 BC. Vinegar, cheese and bread are produced by using bacteria. And these are products of biotechnology. These products were not subjected to debate unlike biotechnologies of today. The differences between the tradtional and the new methods are that the new methods are quicker, cheaper and more reliable. Others, such as new pharmaceuticals, count not be made at all using the older methods. The race to produce more food with less resources has overtaken us. With biotechnology, less area for production, less water and less chemicals are needed. While it is environment-friendly, it also increases food quality. More importantly, biotechnology guarantees more income for the small farmer. With all the precautions installed, the future of the Philippines will be ensured with a biotechnology future.
