Summary : Based on recent studies, Dr. Teresita Espino, executive director of the National Institute for Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, or commonly known as Biotech, at the University of the Philippines in Los Baños, says that proponents of the health benefits of the much-maligned coconut oil were finally vindicated. Biotech, for one, has been one of the main exponents of the VCO using mixed enzymes which until now remains classified by Biotech. Actually, the VCO became an overnight phenomenon after Dr. Espino presented it before the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) as an alternative cure to the dreaded Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrom (SARS) at the height of the regional epidemic in 2000. Before that, scientists were already looking at the coconut oil as possible cure for Acute Immune Deficiency Syndrom (AIDS).
