The study was undertaken among 120 farmers in 12 barrios covered by the UPLBCA/SEARCA Social Laboratory in Pila, Laguna to determine changes in the level of living, possession of "high status" goods, net farm income, attitudes, aspirations and patterns of expenditure. In addition to benchmark data and published literature, an interview schedule was developed. Two measures of exposure of farmers to the Social Laboratory were used : an exposure index to indicate level of exposure, and number of years to indicate length of exposure. Indices were either developed or adopted for entrepreneurial qualities, agricultural practices, agricultural resources, level of living and possession of "high status" goods.
