Based on resistance ratings or averages of computed indices for root necrosis, nematode recoveries from roots and soil and numbers of egg masses and eggs/egg mass : 9,13,26, and 17 soybean varieties were resistant, moderately resistant, moderately susceptible, susceptible, respectively, to R. reniformis in a field screening. Highly significant positive linear correlation existed between resistance rating and any one of the assessment parameters used, with nematode recovery from roots, total recoveries from roots and soil and necrosis rating appearing to be the most efficient. Interactions of varieties and nematode species in pots were generally similar for M. Incognita and R. reniformis. Severity of plant damage and nematode recoveries and reproduction were directly related to degree of susceptibility to particular species.
