Root extracts of 17 plants species were tested against Meloidogyne incognita Chitwood. eleven of these species, namely, Tagetes erecta, Chromolaena odorata, Mimosa pudica, Cynodon dactylon, Eragrostis tenella, Cetrosema pubescens, Crotalaria spectabilis, Portulaca oleracae, Moringa pterygosperma, Leucaena leucocephala (codes 5 and 30) and Derris elliptica showed promising results. Their extracts were just as effective as the nematicide Fumazone 75 E.C. (DBCP) at 300 ppm in controlling the nematode. Eggs and larvae of M. incognita that were immersed in pure root extracts of these plants for four days failed to infect roots of 3-week old tomato seedlings. A dilution of 1:10 root extracts of Tagetes erecta, Chromolaena odorata, Mimosa pudica, Cynodon dactylon, Eragrostis tenella, Cetrosema pubescens, Crotalaria spectabilis, Portulaca oleracae, Moringa pterygosperma, Leucaena leucocephala, Derris elliptica was still effective to control the nematode and was comparable to the effect of nematicide Fumazone 75 E.C. at 300 ppm. However, when the pure root extracts of these 17 plants species were applied as soil drench, their effectiveness to control the nematode was much lower than the effect of nematicide.
