A six-month experiment was conducted at the Dept. of Animal Science, College of Agriculture, University of the Philippines at Los Baños, to find the effects of varying cooling facilities on the estrous cycle, estrus duration and ovulation time of Philippine carabaos. Twenty-four estrous cycling caraheifers, about two and a half to three years old were randomly assigned to four lots, with six animals per lot in the following experimental lay-out : Lot 1, without any cooling system, Lot II, with concrete water wallow, Lot III with overhead water sprinkler and Lot IV, with muddy wallow. The animals were fed with Napier grass silage (Pennisetum purpureum) and concentrate mixture (1.5% of body weight).
