Summary : An experiment in plastic vessels was conducted in greenhouse of the Soil Science Laboratory. Faculty of Agriculture, Gadjah Mada University. The experiment was carried out to evaluate the water and soil quality of pond which were subjected to drying and aeration after inundation, to find out which drying and aeration treatments are the best for shrimp culture. The soil quality was observed during drying treatment and after inundation, while the water quality was observed after inundation. In this experiment, the soil used was obtained from an intensive shrimp pond, while the sea water was collected from Jepara coast. The wet soil was taken from the pond bottom at the 0-25 cm depth. The experiment design used was the FActorial Completely Randomised Design (FCRD) with two factors, namely soil drying and water aeration treatments. The soil drying treatments consisted of drying the wet soil under the sun to air dry condition, field capacity conditin and water saturated condition. The soil drying treatments were carried out for 64 days. The aeration treatments after inundation consisted of with aeration and without aeration. Soil less water also was prepared as control. The aeration treatments were carried out for 64 days. Hence, there were a total of eight treatments, with two replications for each treatment.
