Summary : The study revealed that collaborative governance in mining is still a rhetoric, and that collaboration is done on case to case basis, and therefore, a temporary activity among mining stakeholders. In the light of the findings, so much room exists for collaborative governance to be an effective tool in attaining the socio-economic and ecological stability in sustainability in mining communities in the province. For one, the weak collaborative governance in the mining sector of the province may be better addressed through constant dialogues and transparency of operations among agencies concerned such as the DENR-MGB, local government units, and the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD) to ensure a mutually supportive approach to mining. Secondly, these regulatory agencies should spearhead the capacity building of barangays , municipalities, and the provincial government to make informed decisions in all aspects of mining, from exploration to feasibility studies to actual operations and mine closure issues; and lastly, that proper implementation of Social Development Management Program (SDMP) would create trust and develop positive community relations which is a necessary social investment in order to ensure successful mine operation today and beyond.
