Rice is subjected to waterlogging and flash flooding that reduce seedling survival and grain yield in South and Southeast Asia. In addition to the need for tolerant varieties, proper crop establishment and nutrient management are of considerable importance in flood-affected area. This study assessed the effect of basal application of phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) (P2O5: K2O:: 0:0.1, 0.2:0.2, 0.1:0, 0.1:0.1, 0.1:0.2 g L-1) on survival, physiological response and yield of submerged rice by using two tolerant genotypes, FR13A and Swarna-Sub1, and two sensitive genotypes, Swarna and IT42. Tolerant gentoypes hal limited shoot elongation, depleted lesser amount of non-structural carbohydrates, and retained their cholorophyll during submergence. Reduction in dry matter due to submergence was higher in sensitive genotypes. Under submerged condition, Swarna took about 10 more darys to flower than tolerant genotypes. Days to flowering and maturity were not affceted by fertilizer application. Application of 2.0 g P2O5 and 0.1 g K2O L-1 was found more effective in enhancing survival and yield following submergence.
