This publication was based on the findings of the findings of the pilot trials conducted in Isabela, Philippines as a follow up to the results of the comprehensive multidisciplinary survey conducted in the area to assess the current status of the rice and corn postproduction industry and the problems besetting the farmers. It focused on the experiences in the production of the mobile flash dyer and the identification and adoption of two livelihood activities, that is, soap-making and mushroom culture. The process and experience described in the study showed that just as poverty is a dynamic process, with largely unpredictable changes in context, constraints, and opportunities, so also are households strategies and activities to reduce its vulnerability to limited income and alternative job opportunities.
