Summary : This issue of Agriculture and Development Notes examines how fairness can be designed into inclusive value chain interventions, using the case of all-weather coffee dryers in Hinalaan, Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat, Philippines. Drawing from the Inclusive Value Chains Philippines project, the publication explores how coffee farmers and project partners considered different equality models, including equality of opportunity, equality of outcomes, and equality of conditions, to manage fair access to limited postharvest infrastructure. It shows why inclusive agricultural development must account for farmer realities such as distance, transport, information access, and production capacity. This note is useful for researchers, project implementers, agribusinesses, and local governments working on smallholder coffee value chains, postharvest technologies, and farmer-centered rural development.
