Summary : After four decades of services, SEAMEO BIOTROP, the Regional Centre for Tropical Biology, has played its role in the development of research, training and information on various aspects on tropical biology in the region. The short of budget provided by the host government and donors is a limiting factor in maintaining its vision, mission through the programmes. To overcome financial shortfall, improving the income generating activities and self supporting will sustain programmes. The support by the Centre’s partners and collaborators from international and national organization as well as from the private sector were substantial. To support the education SEAMEO BIOTROP has pioneered to initiate programmes through the establishment of Bogor Science Park and involvement in education for sustainable development through Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE). In early 2009, the Centre was awarded a certificate from International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in quality management system (ISO 9001:2000) following the achievement of ISO/IEC 17025:2000 certificate in 2006. It will strongly support the management of BIOTROP to fulfill its mission to become a Centre of Excellence. This certificate is an acknowledgement that SEAMEO BIOTROP has been implementing quality management system. The Centre has also endorsed various community development and empowerment programmes to strengthen its visibility and role in the community. SEAMEO BIOTROP has drawn an initiative on expanding join program at KIIC, together with IPB and three other Indonesiabased SEAMEO Centre.
