The overall 2004 financial outcome shows that the CGIAR surpassed these targets. Total expenditures, including those for challenge programs, were $425 million, or 4 percent above the approved target. Member contributions (grant and contract income) amounted to $437 million, which was supplemented by $16 million in center income, for total financing of $453 million. The result was a surplus of $28 million,3 which was added to reserves. Overall, the CGIARâs financial position grew stronger by the end of the year as confirmed by both short-term and long-term financial indicators.
