Title: Gliricidia sepium as a Renewable Resource for Poverty Alleviation and Sustainable Development in the Philippines.
The program is focused on a renewable resource, the Gliricidia sepium. It is a medium sized tree located in tropical areas is studied by the researchers of the University of Northern Philippines. It was isolated, characterized and identified by Rabena to contain a toxic chemical coumarin (Rabena, 1996) a cyclic ester that was isolated using two different solvents (Rabena, 2008).
