Biosafety in food and health, ecological risks in the use of biotechnology, development of antibiotic resistance on users of biotechnology products and biotechnology contribution to agricultural sustainability and on the other side, the threat of losing traditional plant varieties in favor of the more productive varieties are some of the forefront issues that ensued from the introduction of biotechnology to intervene for agriculture modernization. The program for science-based farming practices is an offshoot of government's deliberate effort toward poverty eradication in the country. Science and technology (S&T) interventions in agriculture basically aim to develop productive and disease-free planting materials and bolster crop yield. Government scientists/experts shed light on the issues of risks and biosafety in the use of biotechnology to help farmers develop readiness to form favorable adoption decisions. It is hoped that results of this interaction among the country's key players in agriculture will benefit users of technology/information in agriculture.
