Global competitiveness requires sustained productivity growth, product and market diversification and more efficient land utilization. Though there are existing and several constraints that beset the agriculture sector, there are reasons for optimism towards more establishments of knowledged-based or technology-based production systems and enterprsies. The continuing and increasing institutional support to R&D and technology promotion and commercialization through the active partnership of government agencies between and among the local government units, the legislative branch, the civil society, the private sector, and other stakeholders shall keep the hope alive in attaining the goals of global competitiveness, food security and poverty alleviation.
