This finding was the principal result of a nationwide survey conducted by the Crop Protection Division of the Bureau of Plant Industry, in cooperation with the Policy Research Service of the DA and Croplife Philippines. The study authored by Godfrey P. Ramon, Senior Research Associate of the Biotechnology Coalition of the Philippines (BCP) titled "Level of Acceptance of Filipino Farmers on the Proposed 80-20 Bag-in-a-bag IRM Scheme: Results of the 2005 Nationwide Survey" has projected the number of farmers planting Bt corn will be bigger in the next planting season. Only 11 out of 25 or 43.6 percent are willing to implement the 80-20 insect management (IRM) strategy primarily because of the perception that it leads to reduced yields and incomes. Those surveyed said they approved of Bt corn because of the protection from corn borer, increased productivity and reduced application of pesticides.
