This study aimed to determine the effects of prawn on the growth, survival, and production of Nile tilapia grown in cages with freshwater prawn. The experiment lasted 90 days, using 12 nets of fixed type cages with dimension of 1.5 x 1.5 x 2.10 m. Treatments contained tilapia with prawn in stocking combinations of 50:10, 50:20, and 50:30, respectively. Each treatment had three replicates. Results revealed that individual mean weight, total production, net production, percent recovery, and food convertion ratio of tilapia for the various treatments were not statistically significant. Conclusively, prawn could not compete with tilapia. Production of tilapia in mixed culture was comparable with monoculture. Mean weight, weight gain, and total production of prawn at various stocking densities were not statistically significant (P<0.05). However, in terms of percent recovery, a significant differnce was observed among treatments. In general, the performance of prawn was relatively poor. This might due to low water temperature. The weight of individual tilapia did not differ much from the mean value while prawn weights varied more as compared with that of tilapia. Economic analysis revealed that the best prawn stocking density was Treatment II, which had the highest net returns (P86.12).
