Eight nematode genera were identified in a survey conducted in several rice-growing areas of Laguna, Bicol, Mindanao, and Western Visayas, namely, Aphelenchoides besseyi Christie, 1942, Hirschmanniella sp., Tylenchorhynchus sp., Helicotylenchus sp. Tylenchus sp., Criconemoides sp., Trichodorus sp. and Pratylenchus sp. On the other hand, the stem nematode, Ditylenchus angustus (Butler, 1913) Filipjev, 1936 was not encountered in stem samples collected in all six provinces surveyed. Found in all provinces surveyed. Found in all provinces surveyed, the white-tip nematode A. besseyi was most extensive among the genera identified. Highest incidence and most extensive occurrence of the nematode was in Iloilo. Although the mean percent of nematode incidence in grains for the province was only 12.7 percent, the highest was obtained in its municipality of Pototan at 32 percent. The incidence and extent of distribution was less extensive in Albay, but the highest population per grain was noted at 102 nematodes in Tobacco.
