A concept of tenure niche by Fortmann, (1987) was adopted to describe property relationship with regards to land. There were two types of tenure in the study area, woodlot under private holding and forest managed by the community. The rapid rural appraisal methodology was used to gather information on the physical aspects of the territory, use rights and management of resources. It also involved small group discussion for participatory mapping transect methodology and calendar approach. Semi-sttructure interview was conducted in 52 households, from which 28 are woodlot owners and 24 are communal forest users.
