Three fixed-area-plot and three variable-area-plot or point sampling specification were investigated and compared with a control or standard plot. Comparisons of their accuracy for estimated stand volumes, efficiency based on size of variance and time spent in field measurement were made. The study was conducted using three types of stands classified on the basis of size of predominant trees in the stand. Based on accuracy, none of the six sampling methods could be identified as more efficient than the others. Analysis of time spent in the field by the sampling methods/specifications, first by ANOVA and then Duncan's New Multiple Range Test demonstrated that PS 6 is the most efficient among all the treatments.
