Vegetables, such as tomatoes, are essential components of daily diets as they provide vital nutrients like vitamins and minerals crucial for human survival and growth. Tomatoes show great potential for increased production and are valuable commodities for export and processing industries. In 2008, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) introduced regulations focusing on Good Agricultural Practice of Vietnam (VietGAP) to ensure safe vegetable production for both local consumption and export. Various stakeholders, including authorities, local governments, and research institutions, have collaborated to assist farmers in implementing these practices. Technological advancements, such as adopting new varieties and advanced techniques, along with optimizing input usage, can enhance productivity and improve technical efficiency. A study conducted in Hung Yen province, specifically in Yen My district, highlighted the district's success in safe vegetable production, particularly tomatoes, among those following VietGAP criteria compared to those who did not. The VietGAP group demonstrated higher technical efficiency at 0.88, in contrast to 0.894 for the non-VietGAP group, with statistical significance at the 99% confidence level. Moreover, technical efficiency was influenced by factors like age, education, agricultural experience, and training. To encourage farmers to adopt VietGAP practices, the study suggests improving access to capital and formal credit, controlling input and output costs, providing information support, establishing strong customer relationships, enhancing production skills and capacity, and fostering a positive mindset.
