Summary : Increased collaborations on activities conducted throughout FY 2003-2004 led to a higher participant attendance and thus a higher profile for SEAMEO SPAFA. For example, the ‘Southeast Asian Performing Arts Workshop & Seminar’, held 10-14 November 2003, with Bangkok University had over 100 participants from 13 countries. The ‘International Seminar on Indigenous Wisdom and Education Strategies’, held 12-14 February 2004, with the Office of the Education Council (OEC) attracted over 200 participants from 15 countries. Collaboration and support from the ASEAN Foundation on ‘Workshops for Managing the Integration of Culture into Development Programmes’ (MICDP), August 2003, has resulted in a publication of ‘Guidelines for Managing the Integration of Culture into Development Programmes’, available in print and also electronically. This publication has attracted interest from various organizations not just within Southeast Asia but also from Europe (Denmark, Italy), China, India, and Africa (Benin, South Africa). Conduct of the workshops were also a marketing activity in itself as participation was achieved from major organizations like UN Agencies, Shell Foundation etc. The usual promotion of activities included press releases and other media announcements, pamphlet distributions, SPAFA Journal mailout, and improved web site updates. Most significantly though for improved marketing of SPAFA was the increase in collaborative efforts, as outlined above, coupled with the attendance of the Director and key staff at professional events that provided for the opportunity of the direct marketing of SPAFA.
